Acupuncture Sports Medicine Apprenticeship Program Completed

In November, 2010 I completed a six month apprenticeship in Sports Medicine Acupuncture which included the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of common injury and pain syndromes.  The six month intensive was held in Boulder Colorado and was taught by well know acupuncturist, Whitfield Reaves, OMD, LAc (www.whitfieldreaves.com).  Whit was one of the first acupuncturists to be licensed in the United States in 1981. He is the author of the book The Acupuncture Handbook of Sports Injuries & Pain published in 2009.

The apprenticeship provided me with one-on-one direct and focused training with the benefit of Whit’s 30 years of practice here in the United States.  It is little different treating Westerners and especially athletes who train hard, and who often face stress filled lives.  In addition, in the U.S. it is not always easy to live a balanced life style or to consistently incorporate optimal eating habits.  As a result, acupuncture treatments have been adapted to work with today’s patient in today’s environment.

Some of the injuries and or syndromes that were focused on include:

Heel Pain

            Achilles Tendonitis

            Plantar Fasciitis

Foot Pain

            Ankle Sprain

            Pain of the Big Toe

            Metatarsal (Morton’s) Neuroma

Leg Pain

            Shin Splints

Knee Pain

            Acute Injury of Medial Knee

            Arthritis

            IT Band Syndrome (Runner’s Knee)

Thigh Pain

            Hamstring Injury

Hip Pain

            Bursitis

            Arthritis

Low Back Pain

Hand Pain

            Carpal Tunnel

Elbow Pain

            Tennis Elbow

            Golfer’s(Climber’s) Elbow

Shoulder Pain

            Rotator Cuff Pain

            Frozen Shoulder

            Biceps Tendonitis

            AC Joint

Neck Pain

Typically, patients who present with these types of injuries, especially if they are acute (recent), get better pretty fast.  Call me, and we will talk about your individual situation.
