Doing Less to Get More Done

We talk a lot about mindfulness at H+H because we know it can be a game changer in your life. It’s common for us to hear busy professionals say that they never have enough time, or that they are overwhelmed and so stressed out. How often do you ask someone how they’re doing and they reply, “Busy!” There’s just no way they would have time to incorporate a mindfulness practice into their life right? Wrong! Actually, we think they can’t afford not to.

It takes a little as 5 minutes a day to begin a mindfulness practice. That’s it! Just 5 minutes to reshape your perspective, reduce stress, change the way you approach difficult situations and develop deeper relationships with those around you. How could you afford not to take those 5 minutes?!

Once you begin a mindfulness practice you’ll be in good company. Some of the most successful people in our society practice their own versions of mindfulness including Oprah, Russell Simmons and billionaire founder of Bridgewater Associate, Ray Dalio who says, “Mediation, more than anything in my life, was the biggest ingredient of whatever success I’ve had.”

Many fortune 500 companies, including Google, Apple and AOL, have been offering mindfulness and meditation training to their employees because they see it directly correlates to lower stress levels, improved productivity and better physical health. Taking those 5-20 minutes a day might seem like you’re losing time, but you will actually gain so much more. You will gain clarity, perspective, a renewed sense of purpose and often times a deeply grounding feeling of connection.

As with anything, mindfulness is a practice. There will be days when it’s easy and amazing and days when you can’t wait for those few minutes to be over. That’s ok. The key is to stay consistent. If you miss a day, just keep going. Even if you miss a week, that’s ok, just keep going.
